Anyone for Tennis........
Yesterday was one of our many participation events aimed at getting more young people active and linking to extra curricular opportunities across Newcastle. Walkergate and West Walker Primary schools attended the mini tennis and received an hours coaching and an hours competition at West Gate 'Centre for Sport'. Everyone worked on some basic fundamental movements of tennis and then had a chance to demonstrate these skills in some organised tournaments of matched ability.
A real highlight for us was the attitude of all the pupils to engage in the challenges and tournament, most of whom had never played tennis before. We are now convinced the next Andy Murray is in a school in the East End of Newcastle and we look forward to the next chance to work with the pupils again.
The next mini tennis competition is for year 4 and is a qualifying competition for our Tyne & Wear School Games programme and we already have 3 schools signed up and working through some schemes of work back at school in preparation.
If you would like to enter the next mini tennis competition contact the school games office on 0191 265 6091 ext 317.
