·         Vertical jump
·         Long jump
·         Triple jump

Every school taking part was offered Level 1 support prior to the competition with a number of schools receiving an intra school competition for whole class activity to prepare and familiarise them with the format and rules. Some schools used the support it as an opportunity to let the pupils 'try out' to represent the school at the competition.

The competition saw St Charles RC Primary take the Gold Medal with Walkergate in Silver position and Kingston Park in Bronze. We would also like to congratulate St Cuthbert’s Kenton and West Walker for there efforts and helping to generate  an amazing atmosphere for all the competitors.

This Level 2 competition is a qualifying competition for the Level 3 Sportshall Athletics Final next term where the winning school will compete against the winning schools from Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

Matt Lawn, PE Coordinator from Walkergate Primary School said "We have really enjoyed the competition which has been really competitive and our pupils have worked really hard to secure a Silver place finish. The Level 1 support was really important in preparing our pupils for competition. We have already signed up for the next competition on 8th November".

Inclusion Tutor Training

School Games Organisers and Teachers from across Tyne & Wear gathered at Gateshead Leisure Centre this morning to take part in Inclusion Tutor Training.

The course focused on the Top Sportsability resource and equipping attendees with the tools to deliver the training to young leaders in their areas.

The key aims of Top Sportsability are:

1 provide a vehicle for the inclusion of disabled and non-disabled young people in physical activity and sport.

2 suggest specific idea and strategies to support the inclusion of young people who have significant special needs and impairments.

3 a basic introduction to a range of sports, including 3 current Paralympic sports, in support of the School Games programme.

The course will raise leaders confidence, knowledge and understanding and enable them to deliver quality fully inclusive sessions.

The timing of the session was perfect on the back of the amazing inspirational Paralympics staged in London during the summer.
